The Walt Disney World Favorite, The Dole Whip

My youngest son and I always have to stop by Adventureland in Walt Disney World for this chilly treat and we always make sure to buy an orange bird container that we take home to sip our drinks by the pool. Thanks to this really neat recipe I found you can enjoy a Dole Whip any time without a visit to Adventureland.
It might surprise you to learn that the Dole Whip did not start out in Disney World. It was originally begun in Hawaii on the Dole Pineapple Plantation where tourists were treated to this great sorbet as they walked around the farm. The lines for the Dole Whip at Disneyland and Disney World beside the Tiki Enchanted Room can be quite long. Thanks to this great recipe I found with four simple ingredients and your ice cream maker you and your family can enjoy this vacation treat any time! All you need is simple syrup, pineapple juice ( which you can buy by the half gallon at Aldi!) and a little bit of lime.
If you’ve never made simple syrup it could not be easier. Simply dissolve granulated sugar in water on the stove and then chill the syrup. Simple syrup is great to keep on hand to sweeten tea, for cocktails or for this great sorbet I found in The Unofficial Disney Parks Cookbook.
1 cup room temperature water
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
2 cups chilled pineapple juice
Juice of half a lime, about a tablespoon
On the stove top dissolve 1 1/2 cup of granulated sugar into one cup of water. Stir continuously until all of the granulated sugar is dissolved. Place simple syrup in the refrigerator to chill.
Pour the pineapple juice along with a half a cup of simple syrup and lime juice into your ice cream maker and follow the directions. You may also want to freeze this mixture for a little while to allow it to set up before serving.
*I double the recipe or make two batches for my family of four so we can each have an ample serving.
